Each year, the Dr. Sadok Besrour Foundation presents an Award for the best teaching activities in Health Sciences, and an Award for innovative achievements in medical scientific research.

2026 Dr. Sadok Besrour Excellence Award

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Directorate General for International Cooperation), in partnership with the Dr. Sadok Besrour Foundation and the Université de Montréal, is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2026 Sadok Besrour Excellence Award in Medicine and Health Sciences.

These annual distinctions aim to recognise and encourage excellence, innovation, knowledge transfer in research, and the quality of medical training in Tunisia.

Awards and Distinctions

Recognising excellence in teaching and research in the service of health sciences.

Two awards of CAN $5,000 each will be presented at an official ceremony in two distinct categories:

The Health Sciences Teaching Award (teaching track).
The Research Excellence Award (dedicated this year to basic researchers).
Common Eligibility Requirements To apply

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

Be a Tunisian junior instructor or researcher practicing in Tunisia. Not hold a major university governance position (e.g., dean, vice-dean).

Demonstrate a track record marked by excellence.

Have obtained a minimum evaluation score of 70%  by the Selection Committee.

Track-Specific Requirements

1. Teaching track (Pedagogy) :

This Award is intended for instructors early in their academic career — Profile: Hospital-university assistant (at least 3 years of seniority) or associate professor (at most 4 years of seniority).

File

A CV of no more than 2 pages, accompanied by the new official application questionnaire detailing your background, teaching innovations, scholarly activities, and leadership.

2. Research track (Basic researchers)

This Award is intended for junior researchers working independently and full-time. Age criterion: Be under 45 years of age as of June 30, 2026.

File

A personal cover letter. A summary of no more than 3 pages presenting an innovative research theme and its impact (medical, social, economic) in Tunisia. A CV of no more than 5 pages structured according to the official evaluation grid (Training, Funding, Contributions, Supervision, Outreach, Leadership).

Timeline and Submission of Applications

Complete application files, including all required documents, must be submitted electronically no later than September 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

In 2024, the Award was presented to Dr. Mohamed Jemaà for his work on aggressive and metastatic forms of cancer. Dr. Jemaà is a cancer researcher working in the genetics laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis and a university lecturer at the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis.
