On Monday, January 19, 2026, the Minister of Health, Dr. Mustafa Ferjani, chaired a working session dedicated to strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Health, the University of Oxford, and the Dr. Sadok Besrour Foundation.

The meeting brought together Professor Michael Kidd, Chief Medical Officer of the Australian Department of Health and Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Oxford; Dr. Sadok Besrour, President of the Dr. Sadok Besrour Foundation, which notably supports primary healthcare; Dr. Ihab Laban, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis; and Dr. Walid Naïja, Director General of Health.

The participants discussed a partnership project to establish the “Sadok Besrour Chair in Primary Care” at the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis. The Chair aims to support academic education and scientific research in primary healthcare.

The participants also emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific research cooperation in primary healthcare and organizing training workshops in Tunisia, with potential to expand these initiatives across Africa and the Arab world.

This initiative is aligned with the Ministry of Health’s efforts to develop international partnerships and promote knowledge exchange in support of healthcare system reform and the improvement of primary care services.
